How do I engage life well?

The Practice of Living concerns how we intentionally engage the realities of everyday life. It encompasses the orientations, judgment, self-regulation, responsiveness, and rhythms through which we translate what we understand and value into patterns of living characterized by increasing wisdom, intentionality, and integrity.

Character provides an internal foundation for living, but character becomes consequential through its expression in everyday life. The Practice of Living concerns this movement from who the traveler is becoming toward how that person actually navigates the landscape.

Through orientation, judgment, self-regulation, situational engagement, rhythm, and embodiment, values and character become expressed in choices, habits, relationships, and responsibilities. The Practice of Living is therefore where understanding and formation become increasingly visible in the repeated patterns of daily living.

Those practices are exercised within The Fields of Life—the enduring domains of personal wellbeing, relationships, contribution, and quality of life in which the traveler participates. In this sense, The Practice of Living forms the bridge between the person we are becoming and the concrete areas of life we are called to inhabit and steward.
